Three minutes now, a phone call today.

There is no online booking calendar here on purpose. Every appointment at Fernhill gets the right amount of time booked for it, and working that out takes a short conversation with a person who knows the diary.

Request an appointment

Delphine reads every one of these and calls back the same working day. Nothing is booked until you’ve spoken to a human.

Step 1 of 3
What brings you in?

Pick the closest fit — we’ll sort out the detail on the phone.

Choose one so we know who to book you with.

When suits you?

We open at 7:30am four days a week for people who’d rather not miss work.

Pick a day window to continue.

Pick a rough time.

And how do we reach you?

We use this to call you back. It goes nowhere else, ever.

We’ll need a name for the chart.

A number we can actually reach you on.

We send the intake form here.

No payment, no account, no automated system. Just a form that ends in a phone call.

Got it, there.

Your request is with Delphine at the front desk. She’ll call you back before we close today — or first thing tomorrow if you sent this after 4:30pm.

Finding us

The red brick one with the green door.

214 Montford Avenue, six minutes north of downtown, on the block between Chestnut Street and Watauga Street. There is no illuminated sign — just a small brass plate by the door, which is deliberate.

Parking

Six marked spaces behind the building, entered from the alley off Watauga. Free two-hour street parking on Montford itself, rarely full before 9am.

By bus

ART route S3 stops at Montford & Chestnut, a ninety-second walk. Route S6 stops two blocks south at Zillicoa.

Step-free access

Use the rear entrance from the car park — level threshold, 36-inch door, and every treatment room plus an accessible bathroom is on the ground floor.

New patients

The questions people actually ask.

Taken more or less verbatim from the phone. If yours isn’t here, call and ask — we don’t charge for questions.

See treatments & prices

Ninety minutes. Digital X-rays and a panoramic, intra-oral photographs so you can see your own teeth on a screen, six-point gum measurements, an oral cancer screening, and then twenty minutes sitting up, fully clothed, having a conversation about what we found. You leave with a printed plan and prices. We generally don’t clean on the first visit — that’s booked separately once we know what your gums need.

We’re in-network with Delta Dental Premier, Cigna DPPO, MetLife and Ameritas. We’re out-of-network but happy to file for Aetna, United Concordia, Guardian and BCBS of NC — you’ll usually still get most of your benefit, and Delphine will estimate your share in writing before anything starts. We don’t currently accept Medicaid or NC Health Choice, which we’re not proud of; call us and we’ll tell you who nearby does.

No. It is genuinely the most common thing we hear on the phone and it is not interesting to us. Nobody here will ask why, nobody will sigh, and nobody will tell you what you should have done. We start from where you are today. Dr. Thorne in particular has built an entire career on this and he is very good at it.

Call (828) 555-0142. We hold two emergency slots every clinic day and we don’t give them away to routine work. If you call before 10am you will almost certainly be seen the same day. If we genuinely can’t fit you in, we’ll say so immediately and point you somewhere that can, rather than leaving you waiting for a callback.

Yes, and about one patient a week is. Nitrous oxide is the usual answer — $75, on in two minutes, off in five, and you drive yourself home. For deep cleanings or if the mere idea of a scaler is unbearable, oral sedation works too. Nobody will ask you to justify it.

Six marked spaces behind the building off the alley, plus free two-hour street parking on Montford. The rear entrance is level with a 36-inch door and there’s an accessible bathroom on the ground floor; all six treatment rooms are on the ground floor too. The front steps are the only stairs in the building and you never have to use them. ASL interpretation with two weeks’ notice, at no cost.

Please do. We see children from about age three and we’ll happily book a parent and two children back to back so it’s one trip. Children under 14 are $29/month on the membership plan. If your child has had a bad experience elsewhere, say so when you book and we’ll give you Tasha and the first slot of the morning.

Usually two to three weeks for a routine new-patient visit; the early-morning and Friday slots go first. Same day if something hurts. If you’re flexible on the day, Delphine keeps a short cancellation list and people often get in within a week.

In pain today?

Don’t use the form. Use the phone.

Two emergency slots are held every clinic day. Call before 10am and you will almost always be seen before we close.

Transferring to us

We’ll request your records for you

Sign one form at your first visit and Delphine chases your previous practice for X-rays and notes. You never have to make the awkward call yourself, and it saves you a set of radiographs.

Paying for it

Interest-free over six months

On anything over $600, split into six equal payments at no cost, arranged in-house rather than through a third-party lender. Ask Delphine before you decide on treatment, not after.
